INCLUSIVE SPEECH TECHNOLOGY
Senses Hub partners with CDLI, GDI Hub (UCL), and Strathmore University to build inclusive ASR for non-standard speech across African languages. Funded by UK International Development and Google.org.
Bringing together persons with disabilities, innovators, researchers, industry, academia, and policymakers to build a more inclusive continent
200 million+ people in Africa live with disability (WHO). Only 1 in 10 who need assistive technology have access to it
Senses Hub is Africa's home of assistive technology innovation where persons with disabilities, researchers, engineers, clinicians, and policymakers come together to build technology that actually works for the continent. We are anchored in the fundamental belief that people with disabilities are entitled to participate fully in society, and that the solutions must come from within Africa, with Africa. From co-designing and testing assistive products with the people who use them, to training makers, distributing AT to underserved communities, and generating evidence that changes policy, we run the full cycle. What makes us different is that persons with disabilities are not just the beneficiaries here, they are the researchers, the innovators, the paid contributors, and the decision-makers.
